Die Cytochrom P450-Proteine sind Monooxygenasen, die viele Reaktionen katalysieren, die am Medikamentenstoffwechsel und an der Synthese von Cholesterin, Steroiden und anderen Lipiden beteiligt sind. Dieses Protein lokalisiert sich im endoplasmatischen Retikulum und seine Expression wird durch Phenobarbital induziert. Das Enzym ist dafür bekannt, einige Xenobiotika zu metabolisieren, wie die Krebsmedikamente Cyclophosphamid und Ifosphamid.
