Die E1a-Region von Adenoviren der Gruppe C kodiert 2 nahezu identische Proteine, die maßgeblich für die onkogenen Eigenschaften von Adenoviren verantwortlich sind. Das CTBP1-Protein bindet an die C-terminale Hälfte dieser E1A-Proteine. Es wird angenommen, dass CTBP2 ein 445 Aminosäuren langes Protein ist und zu 72 % mit CTBP1 identisch ist. Das CTBP2-Gen ist auf Chromosom 10q26.13 kartiert. CTBP2 ist ein Säugetier-Korepressor, der verschiedene Transkriptionsregulatoren steuert. Es bindet den kurzen medialen Abschnitt von Delta-EF1, der das PLDLSL-Motiv enthält, und verstärkt die Transrepressionsaktivität von Delta-EF1.
