CD137 ist ein Mitglied der Tumornekrosefaktor (TNF)-Rezeptorfamilie. Dieser Rezeptor trägt zur klonalen Expansion, zum Überleben und zur Entwicklung von T-Zellen bei. Er kann auch die Proliferation in peripheren Monozyten induzieren, die TCR/CD3-getriggerte T-Zell-Apoptose verstärken und die CD28-Co-Stimulation regulieren, um Th1-Zellantworten zu fördern. Die Expression dieses Rezeptors wird durch Lymphozytenaktivierung induziert. Es wurde gezeigt, dass TRAF-Adapterproteine an diesen Rezeptor binden und die Signale transduzieren, die zur Aktivierung von NF-kappaB führen.
