Die Carboanhydrase 1 ist ein Enzym, das beim Menschen durch das CA1-Gen kodiert wird. Es ist ein Mitglied der Carboanhydrasen. Das CA1-Gen ist auf 8q22 kartiert. CAI besitzt etwa 260 Aminosäuren. Dieses Protein wird in Erythrozyten stark exprimiert. Als Katalysator der reversiblen Hydratation von Kohlendioxid ist CAI an einer Vielzahl biologischer Prozesse wie Atmung, Kalzifizierung, Säure-Basen-Gleichgewicht usw. beteiligt.
