Immunreaktives BCL2-Protein in den neoplastischen Zellen fast aller follikulären Lymphome, während kein BCL2-Protein in Follikeln, die von nicht-neoplastischen Prozessen betroffen sind, oder in normalem Lymphgewebe nachgewiesen wurde. Jeder Tumor mit molekulargenetischem Nachweis einer t (14;18)-Translokation exprimierte nachweisbare Mengen an BCL2-Protein, unabhängig davon, ob der Bruchpunkt im BCL2-Gen oder in einiger Entfernung davon lag. Die Überexpression von BCL2 blockiert den apoptotischen Tod einer Pro-B-Lymphozyten-Zelllinie.
