AMHR2 ist der Rezeptor für das Anti-Müller-Hormon (AMH), das zusätzlich zu Testosteron zur männlichen Geschlechtsdifferenzierung führt. AMH und Testosteron werden in den Hoden von verschiedenen Zellen produziert und haben unterschiedliche Wirkungen. Testosteron fördert die Entwicklung der männlichen Genitalien, während die Bindung von AMH an den kodierten Rezeptor die Entwicklung der Müller-Gänge zu Gebärmutter und Eileitern verhindert. Mutationen in diesem Gen sind mit dem Persistenten Müller-Gang-Syndrom Typ II assoziiert. Alternativ gespleißte Transkriptvarianten, die verschiedene Isoformen kodieren, wurden identifiziert.
