Die Laktatdehydrogenase (LDH) ist eine Oxidoreduktase. LDH katalysiert die Umwandlung von Laktat zu Pyruvat und umgekehrt, indem sie NAD+ zu NADH und umgekehrt umwandelt. LDH besteht aus vier Untereinheiten (Tetramer). Die beiden häufigsten Untereinheiten sind die LDH-M- und LDH-H-Proteine. LDH wird von Zellen nach Gewebeschädigung oder Erythrozytenhämolyse in das Blut freigesetzt. Die extrazelluläre LDH-Aktivität wird zum Nachweis von Zellschädigungen oder Zelltod verwendet.
