Bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2) is proteolytically processed to a disulfide-linked growth-factor homodimer. It initiates canonical BMP signalling through BMP type I and type II receptor complexes, including BMPR1A and BMPR2, activating SMAD-dependent transcription.
