argonaute RISC catalytic component 2
AGO2 (argonaute RISC catalytic component 2; protein argonaute-2) is the catalytic Argonaute protein of RNA-induced silencing complexes. Loaded with miRNAs or siRNAs, AGO2 guides sequence-specific gene silencing and can cleave highly complementary target RNAs.

Research context & evidence
Target information is kept separate from product-level validation so you can review the biology and the reagent evidence independently.
Protein argonaute-2 binds short guide RNAs within the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). Guide miRNAs or siRNAs direct AGO2 to complementary mRNAs; highly complementary targets can undergo AGO2-mediated endonucleolytic cleavage, while partially complementary targets can be repressed at the level of translation.
AGO2 is central to studies of RNA interference, miRNA function, RISC assembly, small-RNA loading and sequence-specific RNA cleavage. Researchers commonly examine AGO2 abundance, localization, RNA loading and target engagement when dissecting post-transcriptional gene regulation.
