CD36 is a cell-surface scavenger receptor and fatty-acid transporter expressed on several cell types, including platelets, macrophages, adipocytes and muscle cells. It binds ligands such as thrombospondin, oxidised lipoproteins and long-chain fatty acids, linking lipid handling with adhesion, innate immune responses and cellular signalling.
