Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is a cytokine with roles in innate and adaptive immune regulation, inflammation and macrophage function. In cells it is found in the cytosol, including near the peripheral plasma membrane, and it can also be released extracellularly to act as an immune signalling mediator.
