GFAP (phospho Ser38) rabbit pAb is a research-use antibody from ELK Biotechnology for studying GFAP in WB, IHC, IF, ELISA workflows with listed reactivity for Human, Rat, Mouse. Specifications and supporting documents below should be reviewed when planning the experiment.
This gene encodes one of the major intermediate filament proteins of mature astrocytes. It is used as a marker to distinguish astrocytes from other glial cells during development. Mutations in this gene cause Alexander disease, a rare disorder of astrocytes in the central nervous system. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. GFAP identifies glial fibrillary acidic protein in Homo sapiens (Human). This target record connects NCBI Gene 2670, UniProtKB P14136 and related ABMIUM catalogue products.
Biological function: GFAP is a class III intermediate-filament protein expressed prominently in astrocytes and other glial populations. It contributes to cytoskeletal organisation, maintenance of cell structure and glial responses to injury or stress.
