Iba1 rabbit pAb is a research-use antibody from ELK Biotechnology for studying AIF1 in WB, IF, ELISA workflows with listed reactivity for Human, Rat, Mouse. Specifications and supporting documents below should be reviewed when planning the experiment.
This gene encodes a protein that binds actin and calcium. This gene is induced by cytokines and interferon and may promote macrophage activation and growth of vascular smooth muscle cells and T-lymphocytes. Polymorphisms in this gene may be associated with systemic sclerosis. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, but the full-length and coding nature of some of these variants is not certain. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2016],

AIF1 is allograft inflammatory factor 1, widely recognised in research as IBA1 (ionized calcium-binding adapter molecule 1). It is a calcium- and actin-binding protein associated with myeloid-cell cytoskeletal responses and is commonly studied in macrophage and microglial biology.
Biological function: AIF1/IBA1 binds actin and calcium and contributes to cytoskeletal remodelling, membrane ruffling and cell motility. Reviewed evidence supports roles in RAC-dependent actin dynamics, phagocytic activity and macrophage activation, making AIF1 useful for investigating changes in myeloid-cell state and morphology.
