CD14 is a pattern-recognition co-receptor expressed prominently on monocytes and macrophages. The membrane form is glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored at the cell surface, while a soluble form is also present extracellularly. CD14 helps capture bacterial lipopolysaccharide and deliver it to the TLR4-MD2 signalling complex, contributing to innate inflammatory responses.
