ATG12 rabbit pAb is a research-use antibody from ELK Biotechnology for studying ATG12 in WB workflows with listed reactivity for Human, Mouse, Rat. Specifications and supporting documents below should be reviewed when planning the experiment.
Autophagy is a process of bulk protein degradation in which cytoplasmic components, including organelles, are enclosed in double-membrane structures called autophagosomes and delivered to lysosomes or vacuoles for degradation. ATG12 is the human homolog of a yeast protein involved in autophagy (Mizushima et al., 1998 [PubMed 9852036]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008],

ATG12 (autophagy related 12) encodes ubiquitin-like protein ATG12, a core autophagy factor that forms the ATG12-ATG5 conjugate required for autophagosome membrane formation.
Biological function: Ubiquitin-like protein ATG12 is covalently conjugated to ATG5 through an ATG7- and ATG10-dependent system. The ATG12-ATG5 complex, together with ATG16L1, acts as an E3-like factor that promotes ATG8-family lipidation and association with developing autophagic membranes.
