TRPC5 is subtype of the TRPC family of mammalian transient receptor potential ion channels. It is mapped to Xq23. The predicted 973-amino acid TRPC5 protein has a calculated molecular mass of 111.5 kD. It contains the characteristic 8 predicted transmembrane domains (TM1 through TM8), including a pore region (TM7) between TM6 and TM8. TRPC5 is a multi-pass membrane protein and is thought to form a receptor-activated non-selective calcium permeant cation channel, and it is a candidate for the regulation of calcium waves. The protein is active alone or as a heteromultimeric assembly with TRPC1, TRPC3, and TRPC4.
