ABCG8 is an ATP-binding cassette half-transporter that pairs with ABCG5 to control sterol transport. The complex is enriched in liver and intestinal tissues and localises to the apical plasma membrane, where it supports biliary cholesterol secretion and helps restrict intestinal uptake of non-cholesterol sterols.
