ALOX12 is an iron-containing lipoxygenase that converts polyunsaturated fatty acids into bioactive lipid mediators, including products involved in platelet signalling and inflammatory lipid metabolism. The protein is found mainly in the cytosol and can associate with membranes, placing it at the interface between intracellular lipid metabolism and membrane-derived signalling pathways.
