CD40 is a cell-surface receptor in the tumour necrosis factor receptor superfamily that is expressed on B cells and other antigen-presenting cells. Engagement by CD40 ligand supports immune-cell activation and is important for processes including immunoglobulin class switching, germinal-centre responses and memory B-cell development.
