AMBP rabbit pAb is a research-use antibody from ELK Biotechnology for studying AMBP in WB, ELISA workflows with listed reactivity for Human, Rat, Mouse. Specifications and supporting documents below should be reviewed when planning the experiment.
This gene encodes a complex glycoprotein secreted in plasma. The precursor is proteolytically processed into distinct functioning proteins: alpha-1-microglobulin, which belongs to the superfamily of lipocalin transport proteins and may play a role in the regulation of inflammatory processes, and bikunin, which is a urinary trypsin inhibitor belonging to the superfamily of Kunitz-type protease inhibitors and plays an important role in many physiological and pathological processes. This gene is located on chromosome 9 in a cluster of lipocalin genes. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008],

AMBP (alpha-1-microglobulin/bikunin precursor) is a secreted precursor processed into alpha-1-microglobulin (A1M), an antioxidative lipocalin, and bikunin, a serine-protease inhibitor. It is studied in extracellular oxidative-stress control, protease regulation and inter-alpha-inhibitor biology.
Biological function: Proteolytic processing of AMBP produces two functionally distinct proteins. Alpha-1-microglobulin binds and scavenges heme and reactive radicals and contributes to protection from oxidative tissue damage. Bikunin inhibits several serine proteases and contributes to inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor family complexes in extracellular protease regulation.
