P2RX5 is a member of the P2X family of purinergic receptors. P2X receptors are membrane-associated ATP-gated ion channels that couple extracellular ATP sensing to cation flux and cellular signalling; for human P2RX5, channel function is isoform-dependent. The receptor is associated with the plasma membrane and other endomembrane compartments.
