GPX1 is a selenium-dependent antioxidant enzyme found mainly in the cytosol, where it reduces hydrogen peroxide and organic hydroperoxides using glutathione. By limiting peroxide accumulation, it contributes to cellular redox control and protection from oxidative damage.
