Endothelial cell-specific molecule 1 (Esm1), also known as endocan, is a secreted extracellular proteoglycan associated with vascular endothelium. In mouse, Esm1 is linked to sprouting angiogenesis, endothelial tip-cell behaviour and regulation of vascular permeability, with expression reported across kidney, lung and other tissues.
