TLR3 is a pattern-recognition receptor of the innate immune system that detects double-stranded RNA associated with viral infection. It signals through TRIF/TICAM1 to activate IRF3 and NF-κB pathways, promoting type I interferon and inflammatory responses. TLR3 is a transmembrane receptor that functions principally in endosomal compartments, where it can encounter internalised nucleic acids.
