FSHB encodes the beta subunit of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), a secreted pituitary glycoprotein hormone that forms a heterodimer with the common alpha subunit. The beta chain confers FSH receptor specificity, supporting follicular development in the ovary and spermatogenesis in the testis.
