AGR2 (anterior gradient 2, protein disulphide isomerase family member; PDIA17) is an endoplasmic-reticulum protein of the protein-disulfide-isomerase family. It is studied in protein folding, epithelial secretory biology, mucin production and ER proteostasis.
Biological function: AGR2 is an ER-localized protein-disulfide-isomerase-family molecular chaperone with a thioredoxin-like catalytic domain. NCBI describes roles in protein folding and thiol-disulfide interchange, while reviewed UniProt supports a requirement for MUC2 synthesis and secretion and a role in intestinal mucus production.
