GDF15 is a secreted stress-responsive hormone/cytokine that communicates physiological stress to the brain. It binds GFRAL and forms a signalling complex with RET in brainstem neurons, producing responses that include reduced food intake and altered energy balance; circulating GDF15 is also widely studied in metabolic stress, pregnancy, cancer and cachexia.
GDF15 is studied across metabolic disease, obesity and weight regulation, cellular stress, inflammation, oncology, treatment-associated nausea/cachexia and pregnancy biology.
