Interleukin-17A is a protein that is encoded by the IL17A gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a proinflammatory cytokine produced by activated T cells. This cytokine regulates the activities of NF-kappaB and mitogen-activated protein kinases. This cytokine can stimulate the expression of IL6 and cyclooxygenase-2 (PTGS2/COX-2), as well as enhance the production of nitric oxide (NO). High levels of this cytokine are associated with several chronic inflammatory diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis and multiple sclerosis.

View target guide

IL17A identifies interleukin 17A in Homo sapiens (Human). This target record connects NCBI Gene 3605, UniProtKB Q16552 and related ABMIUM catalogue products.

Biological function: IL17A is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that promotes inflammatory mediator production and antimicrobial host-defence responses in multiple responsive cell types, particularly at barrier tissues.
