TNFSF11, also known as RANKL or CD254, is a member of the tumour necrosis factor cytokine family that binds RANK (TNFRSF11A) and osteoprotegerin (TNFRSF11B). It is a key regulator of osteoclast differentiation and activation and also contributes to interactions between T cells and dendritic cells. TNFSF11 is associated with the plasma membrane and extracellular region, consistent with its role as a signalling ligand.
