APOD rabbit pAb is a research-use antibody from ELK Biotechnology for studying APOD in WB, ELISA workflows with listed reactivity for Human, Rat, Mouse. Specifications and supporting documents below should be reviewed when planning the experiment.
This gene encodes a component of high density lipoprotein that has no marked similarity to other apolipoprotein sequences. It has a high degree of homology to plasma retinol-binding protein and other members of the alpha 2 microglobulin protein superfamily of carrier proteins, also known as lipocalins. This glycoprotein is closely associated with the enzyme lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase - an enzyme involved in lipoprotein metabolism. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2008],

Apolipoprotein D (APOD; ApoD/Apo-D) is a secreted lipid-binding glycoprotein associated mainly with high-density lipoprotein (HDL). It binds cholesterol and other hydrophobic ligands and is studied in lipid transport and lipoprotein biology.
Biological function: APOD is a secreted lipid-binding glycoprotein of the lipocalin family. Reviewed UniProt supports cholesterol-binding and lipid-transporter activity, association with lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT), probable bilin transport, and the capacity to carry diverse hydrophobic ligands. In plasma, APOD is enriched in HDL.
