STAT3 is a signal transducer and transcription factor that mediates responses to cytokines and growth factors, regulating gene programmes involved in proliferation, survival, differentiation and immune signalling. It is predominantly cytoplasmic in unstimulated cells and can shuttle to the nucleus, where activated STAT3 dimers regulate transcription.
