PDCD1 (PD-1) is an inhibitory immune-checkpoint receptor expressed on activated lymphocytes and other immune-cell subsets. As a single-pass cell-surface receptor, it binds PD-L1 and PD-L2 to dampen antigen-receptor signalling and helps limit excessive immune activation while contributing to peripheral tolerance.
