Research target context

ALDH3A1aldehyde dehydrogenase 3 family member A1

View target guide

ALDH3A1 (aldehyde dehydrogenase 3 family member A1), also called the dimeric NADP-preferring aldehyde dehydrogenase, is a cytoplasmic enzyme that oxidises aromatic and medium-chain aldehydes. It is studied in aldehyde detoxification, lipid-peroxidation stress and corneal oxidative-protection biology.

Biological function: ALDH3A1 forms a cytoplasmic homodimer and preferentially oxidises aromatic and medium-chain saturated or unsaturated aldehydes to corresponding acids. This activity contributes to reactive-carbonyl detoxification and has been linked to protection against UV- and 4-hydroxynonenal-associated oxidative damage in the cornea.
