Fibroblast growth factor 1 (FGF1) is a member of the FGF family with roles in cell proliferation, survival, angiogenesis, tissue repair and development. Although it lacks a conventional signal peptide, FGF1 can be released from cells through non-classical secretion and acts extracellularly through fibroblast growth factor receptors; intracellular pools are also described.
