ANGPTL3 (angiopoietin like 3), also known as angiopoietin-related protein 3 and ANG-5, is a liver-enriched secreted protein studied for its control of lipoprotein lipase activity, triglyceride clearance and systemic lipid metabolism.
Biological function: ANGPTL3 is secreted predominantly by the liver and can be proteolytically processed into N- and C-terminal fragments. Reviewed UniProt evidence supports a hepatokine role in lipid and glucose metabolism; ANGPTL3 raises plasma triglycerides in part by inhibiting lipoprotein lipase (LPL), reducing triglyceride clearance. NCBI also describes distinct functional contributions of its N-terminal lipid-metabolism region and C-terminal fibrinogen-like region.
