MERTK is a cell-surface receptor tyrosine kinase in the TAM receptor family. In mouse, it is expressed prominently in haematopoietic lineages including macrophages, dendritic cells, NK cells and platelets, and supports signalling involved in cell survival, migration, differentiation and phagocytic clearance of apoptotic cells. It also contributes to retinal pigment epithelium phagocytosis and regulation of innate immune responses.
