PTX3 (pentraxin 3) is a long pentraxin involved in innate immune recognition, regulation of inflammation and complement activation, with additional roles in tissue remodelling and angiogenesis. Its expression is induced by inflammatory signals in several mesenchymal and epithelial cell types, including endothelial cells and mononuclear phagocytes, and the protein functions in the extracellular environment.
