ATG7 (autophagy related 7) encodes ubiquitin-like modifier-activating enzyme ATG7, an E1-like enzyme that drives the ATG12-ATG5 and ATG8/LC3 conjugation systems required for autophagosome formation. Biological function: ATG7 acts as the E1-like activating enzyme for two core autophagy conjugation pathways.
