Biological function: ADIPOQ encodes adiponectin, a secreted adipokine involved in regulation of fat metabolism and insulin sensitivity. Adiponectin promotes AMPK activation in liver and skeletal muscle, supports glucose utilisation and fatty-acid oxidation, and has anti-inflammatory and anti-atherogenic activities.
