ANGPTL3 is secreted predominantly by the liver and can be proteolytically processed into N- and C-terminal fragments. Reviewed UniProt evidence supports a hepatokine role in lipid and glucose metabolism; ANGPTL3 raises plasma triglycerides in part by inhibiting lipoprotein lipase (LPL), reducing triglyceride clearance.
