BCHE is a serine hydrolase that hydrolyses choline esters and other ester-containing substrates. Compared with acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase has broader substrate specificity and contributes substantially to plasma cholinesterase activity and metabolism of multiple ester substrates.
BCHE reagents support research on cholinesterase biochemistry, ester hydrolysis, enzyme inhibition, genetic variation and substrate metabolism. Experimental interpretation should distinguish BCHE from ACHE and account for species, sample matrix, assay substrate and product-level validation.
