APOD is a secreted lipid-binding glycoprotein of the lipocalin family. Reviewed UniProt supports cholesterol-binding and lipid-transporter activity, association with lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT), probable bilin transport, and the capacity to carry diverse hydrophobic ligands. In plasma, APOD is enriched in HDL.
