Biological function

The APLN precursor is proteolytically processed into biologically active apelin peptides including apelin-36, apelin-31, apelin-28 and apelin-13. These peptides activate APLNR/APJ, engaging inhibitory G-protein and beta-arrestin signalling, reducing cAMP and activating ERK pathways.
