Serpin Peptidase Inhibitor, Klade A (alpha-1 Antiproteinase, Antitrypsin), Mitglied 4, auch Kallistatin genannt, ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das SERPINA4-Gen kodiert wird. Dieses Gen ist auf Chromosom 14q32.13 kartiert. Kallistatin ist ein Serinproteaseinhibitor (Serpin) und ein Heparin-bindendes Protein. Es ist in vaskulären glatten Muskelzellen und Endothelzellen von Blutgefäßen lokalisiert, was darauf hindeutet, dass es an der Regulation der Gefäßfunktion beteiligt sein könnte. Es zeigt sich, dass Kallistatin eine Rolle bei der Neointimahyperplasie spielt. Die potenzielle Rolle von Kallistatin wurde in vitro und in vivo bei der Angiogenese untersucht, und die Ergebnisse zeigten eine neue Rolle des Proteins bei der Hemmung der Angiogenese und des Tumorwachstums.
