Cathepsin Z, auch als Cathepsin X oder Cathepsin P bezeichnet, ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das CTSZ-Gen kodiert wird. Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein ist eine lysosomale Cysteinproteinase und Mitglied der Peptidase-C1-Familie. Es weist sowohl Carboxy-Monopeptidase- als auch Carboxy-Dipeptidase-Aktivitäten auf. Das kodierte Protein war auch als Cathepsin X und Cathepsin P bekannt. Dieses Gen wird ubiquitär in Krebszelllinien und Primärtumoren exprimiert und kann, wie andere Mitglieder dieser Familie, an der Tumorentstehung beteiligt sein.
