Histon H3 ist eines der fünf Haupt-Histonproteine, die an der Struktur des Chromatins in eukaryotischen Zellen beteiligt sind. Kernbestandteil des Nukleosoms. Nukleosomen wickeln und verdichten die DNA zu Chromatin, wodurch der Zugang der zellulären Maschinerien, die DNA als Matrize benötigen, zur DNA begrenzt wird.
