Hintergrund
Alpha-1-Fetoprotein (AFP) ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das AFP-Gen kodiert wird. Das AFP-Gen befindet sich auf dem q-Arm von Chromosom 4 (4q25). AFP ist ein wichtiges Plasmaprotein, das während der fetalen Entwicklung vom Dottersack und der Leber produziert wird und als die fetale Form von Serumalbumin angesehen wird. AFP bindet an Kupfer, Nickel, Fettsäuren und Bilirubin und kommt in monomeren, dimeren und trimeren Formen vor.
