Der chorionspezifische Transkriptionsfaktor GCMa ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen vom GCM1-Gen kodiert wird. Dieses Gen kodiert ein DNA-bindendes Protein mit einem gcm-Motiv (glial cell missing motif). Das kodierte Protein ist ein Homolog des Drosophila-Gens "glial cells missing" (gcm). Dieses Protein bindet an das GCM-Motiv (A/G)CCCGCAT, eine neue Sequenz unter den bekannten Zielproteinen von DNA-bindenden Proteinen. Die N-terminale DNA-bindende Domäne verleiht diesem Protein seine einzigartige DNA-bindende Aktivität.
