Mitglieder der F-Box-Proteinfamilie, wie FBXO28, zeichnen sich durch ein etwa 40 Aminosäuren langes F-Box-Motiv aus. SCF-Komplexe, gebildet durch SKP1 (MIM 601434), Cullin (siehe CUL1; MIM 603134) und F-Box-Proteine, fungieren als Protein-Ubiquitin-Ligasen. F-Box-Proteine interagieren über die F-Box mit SKP1 und über andere Proteininteraktionsdomänen mit Ubiquitinierungszielen (Jin et al., 2004 [PubMed 15520277]).
