The protein encoded by this gene is an integral membrane protein and inward-rectifier type potassium channel. The encoded protein KCNJ3, which has a greater tendency to allow potassium to flow into a cell rather than out of a cell, is controlled by G-proteins and plays an important role in regulating heartbeat. It associates with three other G-protein-activated potassium channels to form a heteromultimeric pore-forming complex that also couples to neurotransmitter receptors in the brain and whereby channel activation can inhibit action potential firing by hyperpolarizing the plasma membrane. These multimeric G-protein-gated inwardly-rectifying potassium (GIRK) channels may play a role in the pathophysiology of epilepsy, addiction, Down's syndrome, ataxia, and Parkinson's disease. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct proteins.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"BT LAB","offers":[{"title":"20ul","offer_id":57660657729876,"sku":"ABM166123","price":69.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"50ul","offer_id":57660657762644,"sku":"ABM166124","price":115.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"100ul","offer_id":57660657795412,"sku":"ABM166125","price":176.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1040\/1782\/2036\/files\/btlab-5df20f959a7f3d87bf18017f16e77c44c536983537e293be4e69c359a8e056ee.jpg?v=1792158827","url":"https:\/\/www.abmium.com\/de\/products\/abm166123","provider":"ABMIUM","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
